10:30 One of the oldest shrines in Tokyo
After we arrive at a station in Satoyama area, we will first walk to a historic shrine. This shrine, Akiru-jinja, has a long history and its origin can date back to the Heian Period(A.D.794 – A.D.1185). It’s on the list of shrines that was compiled in 927. This Shinto shrine deifies mainly gods of water and there is the remained site of an ancient well.
11:30 Historic Temple with a thatched roof
This historic temple, founded in 1373, is standing in a quiet area with a thatch roofed entrance gate covered with moss. This temple has a great deal of relationships with the Hojyo family(*). In the guest room, there are Buddhist tablets of the family standing in line.
In the precincts of this temple, there are huge Kaya tree (=Japanese torreya 24.5 m) and Tara Yow tree (=Latifolia 19.1 m) designated as a natural monument of Tokyo Metropolis. Also, there are cherry trees and gigantic Ginkgo biloba trees. So you can enjoy the nature of seasons like beautiful views of cherry blossoms in spring, changing leaves in autumn.
(*)One of the leading lords and a pioneer of the Sengoku period (=Warring States Period). "Hojyo family" dominated the wide range of the Kanto region and lived at "Odawara Castle", one of the largest castles of the Warring States Period.

14:00~ Viewing Satoyama scenic sites while walking
SATOYAMA @TOKYO is where people and nature coexist in harmony.
We're going to across several bridges over Akikawa River that is one of two big rivers running through Satoyama area. These rivers are sources of environmental sustainability around here.
You will see beautiful scenery of a stream of the river and a harmony between people and nature while walking.
There is water from natural spring that is used to make Sake around this area. You can drink the fresh water and take a short break.

15:30 Bathing foot bath in natural hot spring
Bathing foot in a hot spring is popular in Japan. By promoting blood circulation, your whole body can get warm without taking your clothes off. There are many nerves in foot as known as a second heart, so you can also expect relaxing and detoxification effects.
This hot spring comes up from 1,500 meters underground and the water quality is strongly alkaline which is good for your skin. That's why this type of hot springs are popular among young women in Japan. You can feel it on your skin.
And have a walk to see a beautiful river view from a bridge.

*We take a train to SATOYAMA @TOKYO area from Shinjuku, and on the return trip guide services end after guiding you to a train bound for Shinjuku station.
